Burnley edge past Stoke City

Burnley edge past Stoke City

Burnley have secured their second win of the season after edging past Stoke City 2-1 thanks to Danny Ings's first-half brace this afternoon.

Steve Sidwell's clever ball early on freed Victor Moses inside the Burnley half, but the winger's ball to Bojan was overhit.

It was a quiet start but Ings livened proceedings up at the Britannia by scoring two goals in the space of two minutes.

First of all, he prodded home from Ashley Barnes's whipped ball into the area before adding a second by getting on to the end of Michael Kightly's cross.

It was a dramatic period in the game and Stoke struggled to contain Burnley as they looked to get back into the match.

They clawed a goal back through Jonathan Walters, who nodded a header past Tom Heaton after connecting with Bojan's cross.

Following the restart, Stoke continued their search for an equaliser and saw plenty of the ball as they took control of the game.

Victor Moses fired wide from 20 yards before Mame Biram Diouf headed inches past the post.

It was a relentless period of pressure from Stoke, with substitute Marko Arnautovic the next to come close as he dragged a shot wide.

Burnley's heroic defending helped them hold out for the win, however, as they earned a vital win for their season.
