Sam Vokes desperate to impress Sean Dyche

Sam Vokes is hopeful that his return from a knee injury will give Burnley manager Sean Dyche a selection problem for the remainder of the season.

Sam Vokes has admitted that he is hoping to give Burnley manager Sean Dyche a selection headache after recently making his long-awaited return from injury.

The Wales international had played just 10 minutes this season due to a knee injury before coming off the bench to score the equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup on Monday evening, and he is hoping that the goal will boost his chances of competing with Danny Ings and Ashley Barnes for a place in the Burnley attack.

"Hopefully the goal has given the manager something to think about," Vokes told reporters. "But I can't take it for granted, the boys have been doing fantastic up front without me.

"Hopefully when I get my chance I'll try to take it. It's good for the team if all the strikers are scoring and there's competition.

"They are all big in this league but the ones against the teams around you are the ones you need to pick up points in really. I don't think we can shy away from that."

Burnley host fellow strugglers Queens Park Rangers at Turf Moor on Saturday.
