Sean Dyche: 'Burnley are underdogs in promotion race'

Sean Dyche says that Burnley have created an "underdog spirit" as they attempt to secure promotion to the Premier League.

Sean Dyche believes that his Burnley side are at a disadvantage in their quest for promotion because most of the other clubs around them have bigger budgets.

The Clarets, who come up against promotion rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday, are second in the Championship, eight points behind leaders Leicester City.

They have spent the majority of their time near the top of the division, but Dyche claims that finances have dictated that Burnley's season has become an "underdog situation".

"It's still an underdog situation because of finances. Most of the big resourced clubs are at the top. Not all - because we're there - but most. It just makes that challenge more difficult," Dyche is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

"There is an underdog spirit and we've turned this season into a story of 'What if?'

"If we end up getting in the playoffs it's not the worst scenario, we'd still be confident. But now we can see second place, why not go for it?"

Dyche's side have won nine games at Turf Moor this season.
