Hodgson: 'Palace, Brighton good for football'

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has said that the rivalry between Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion is "good for football" ahead of their FA Cup meeting on Monday.

The sides clash in the third round following their 0-0 Premier League stalemate in November, while the only other recent meeting between the clubs was the Championship playoff semi-final in 2013.

Eagles manager Hodgson, who attended Selhurst Park over 50 years ago during the clubs' last spell of games against one another, is excited about Monday's meeting.

"It's quite good to have a match hyped up as being a particular derby, of particular importance to the fans," the 70-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"That's good for football and good for the club, as long as you don't get incidents, or hooliganism, and all the things that can happen around a football match that we all deplore.

"It focuses people's attention. We have a lot of derbies in a way, but they don't get hyped up as derbies in the same way as Tottenham and West Ham did, or between Arsenal and Tottenham, for example."

Palace and Brighton are looking to join a number of Premier League sides in the draw for the fourth round, including Liverpool, Manchester United and West Bromwich Albion.
