Chris Hughton claims that Brighton & Hove Albion "were worthy winners" in their home meeting with Arsenal, having scored twice early on and then held on for the victory.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Chris Hughton has insisted that his side were good value for their 2-1 win against Arsenal at the Amex Stadium.

The Seagulls raced two goals ahead inside the opening 26 minutes through Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back just before half time.

Arsenal would go on to dominate possession and had a chance to snatch a draw at the end through Aubameyang, who failed to get the better of home keeper Mathew Ryan.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the win, which lifts Brighton into the top half of the division, Hughton hailed his players for showing the "ugly side" of their game.

"We are in good form. My biggest disappointment of the game was conceding just before half time because at any level that gives the opponent a lift going into the second half," he said.

"The fact we got the two goals early gave us that buffer that we could hang onto but over the 90 minutes I felt we were worthy winners.

"Our intent at the beginning of the game was very good. I can have no complaints with the first half except the goal we conceded before half time. And then we showed the other side of our game - the ugly side - and you need that."

Brighton have won three consecutive Premier League home games for the first time, having also overcome West Ham United and Swansea City since the beginning of February.
