Brighton fan dies after falling ill at stadium

An elderly Brighton supporter has died after being taken ill ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game against Wolves.

The fan, who attended the match with his son, received treatment from the club’s medical staff at the Amex Stadium.

He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he died.

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber told the club’s website: “This is very sad news and the thoughts and prayers of all of us at the club are with the gentleman’s family and friends at this time.”

The Seagulls won the game 1-0 thanks to Glenn Murray’s 100th goal for the club.
