Brentford 'fail' with two transfer bids for PSV midfielder ahead of Monday's deadline

Brentford have reportedly had two transfer bids rejected from PSV Eindhoven for midfielder Joey Veerman. 

There is plenty of speculation about whether Brentford can keep striker Yoane Wissa amid transfer interest from Newcastle United, but the Bees are also keen to bring in reinforcements before the summer window slams shut on Monday.

Brentford were recently left disappointed in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund forward Max Beier, who looks set to stay put at the Bundesliga club. 

It now appears that the West London club have experienced more frustration in their quest to sign another transfer target ahead of deadline day. 

Brentford fail with two Veerman bids

According to BBC Sport, Brentford have seen two bids rejected for Veerman after they identified the midfielder as a possible transfer target.

The report claims that Brentford's second offer was worth £25m, but PSV have made it clear that they have no plans to part ways with the 26-year-old.

PSV are under no immediate pressure to sanction a sale, with Veerman under contract until the summer of 2028.

Veerman has scored 24 goals and contributed 54 assists in 159 competitive appearances since he joined PSV from Heerenveen in 2022.

What next for Brentford?

Brentford now have to decide whether to return with a fresh offer or concede defeat in their pursuit of the 16-time Netherlands international.

The Bees will ultimately have to evaluate whether there is a figure that will persuade PSV to change their stance, and if so, whether they are willing to pay that amount to prise Veerman away from the Philips Stadion. 

Whatever they choose, Brentford will have to make a swift decision because they are facing a race against time to strengthen Keith Andrews's squad before the market closes at 7pm on September 1. 

Meanwhile, from Veerman's perspective, he may be reluctant to give up the opportunity to play another season in the Champions League, even if the chance to try a new challenge in the Premier League could be an enticing prospect.
