Dunga: 'Injury has cost Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino Brazil places'

Dunga explains Philippe Coutinho snub

Brazil head coach Dunga has revealed that he left Liverpool duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino out of the national team due to injuries sustained by the pair.

The attacking duo will miss fixtures against Argentina and Peru in the World Cup qualifiers next month, as Coutinho pulled out of the squad with a groin injury and Firmino is just returning from a back problem.

Dunga insists that the players will need to "seize their opportunities" if they want to be included in the 23-man side.

"You cannot leave an empty seat. If the guy comes in, sits down and plays well, he will remain in the squad," Dunga told a press conference on Thursday.

"The players have to seize their opportunities."

Neymar was recalled to the squad while Orlando City's Kaka also received a spot in the team.
