Late Jamie Vardy penalty earns point for Leicester City at Bournemouth

Vardy penalty earns point for Leicester

A late Jamie Vardy penalty ensured Bournemouth and Leicester City shared the spoils at Dean Court this afternoon in a 1-1 draw.

Leicester made a lively start to the first half, and Riyad Mahrez thought he had given the visitors the lead on seven minutes after rounding Artur Boruc, but the Algerian was flagged offside.

The Foxes again came close to taking the lead after Danny Drinkwater found Vardy in the box, but the England international curled a shot over.

Bournemouth took the lead against the run of play on 24 minutes though, when Wilson fired an overhead kick past Kasper Schmeichel.

The Cherries took control of the game before the break, and Max Gradel came close to doubling their advantage when his free kick was punched away by Schmeichel.

Chances were few and far between after half time - Wes Morgan came close to finding an equaliser for the visitors from a corner, but the defender could not connect to the delivery properly.

Leicester began to take control of the game in the last 20 minutes - first Jeffrey Schlupp tested Boruc, before Drinkwater produced a powerful strike straight at the Bournemouth keeper.

The visitors rescued a point on 85 minutes after Vardy was brought down by Steve Cook in the penalty area. The striker took the spot kick and fired past Boruc to keep Ranieri's side unbeaten in the Premier League.
