Middlesbrough, Bournemouth draw in six-goal thriller

Middlesbrough, Bournemouth draw in six-goal thriller

Middlesbrough and Bournemouth have played out a 3-3 draw in an entertaining Championship clash at the Riverside Stadium.

The Cherries took an early lead from the penalty spot after Tokelo Rantie went down inside the box under Rhys Williams's challenge, and Brett Pitman converted from 12 yards.

Boro shot themselves in the foot again in the 12th minute when Frazer Richardson was adjudged to have committed a handball offence inside the area, allowing Pitman to smash in his second penalty of the afternoon.

Tony Mowbray's side offered some resistance after going 2-0 down and pulled a goal back with 20 minutes on the clock courtesy of Kei Kamara's right-footed finish.

It took the hosts little more than 10 minutes to draw level, Jacob Butterfield crossing for Mustapha Carayol to drill home and send the teams into the break at 2-2.

The second half was a scrappy affair, with little action to speak of at either end until Boro took the lead in the 74th minute through Grant Leadbitter's left-footed strike.

However, the hosts came apart late on, with Jonathan Woodgate slicing into his own goal with seven minutes remaining before Williams was given his marching orders for a professional foul to ensure that the match ended on a sour note.
