Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe grateful for "ruthless" attitude in front of goal

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe tells Sports Mole that the team's attacking style of play allows them to be "ruthless" in front of goal.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been full of praise for his players' "ruthless" attitude in front of goal this season.

The Cherries, who currently have a one-point lead at the top of the Championship, recently set a new club record of 106 goals in all competitions.

Last Friday's 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion sent records tumbling and also sealed the team's 89th league goal of the campaign.

Callum Wilson leads the way in the scoring charts with 21 so far, but Yann Kermorgant, Brett Pitman and Matt Ritchie have also contributed along the way.

Howe believes that the team's expansive and attacking style allows multiple players to get on the scoresheet.

"I think that ties in with our style of play because we do give the players freedom," the 37-year-old told Sports Mole. "We give them a structure, but we give them a freedom within that structure to express themselves.

"I consider us a very attacking team that takes the game to the opposition and I think when you have that structure and allow players to express themselves, then I think naturally you're going to get players popping up in goalscoring positions that perhaps they wouldn't find themselves in.

"We've been lucky this season that they've been ruthless in front of goal. The guys have not wasted too much and we've shown that composure we needed to win games."

Bournemouth will take on Reading at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow night in the hope of pulling away from Norwich City, Watford and Middlesbrough, who are all in contention for automatic promotion.
