Despite a last-minute move from Brazilian club Botafogo, West Bromwich Albion reportedly remain hopeful of signing Argentina international midfielder Claudio Yacob within the next 24 hours.

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly hopeful of completing the signing of Argentina international midfielder Claudio Yacob later today, despite a late move from Brazilian club Botafogo.

Yacob is a free agent this summer following his release from Buenos Aires outfit Racing Club.

The 24-year-old spent Friday at the Hawthorns and a deal was close to being finalised, but Botafogo have now thrown a spanner in the works by making the player an improved contract offer, according to the Daily Mail.

Yacob has been capped three times at senior international level.
