Borussia Monchengladbach defender Alvaro Dominguez believes that he deserves to be handed a call-up to the Spain squad.
During his time with Atletico Madrid – between 2008 and 2012 – the 25-year-old made two senior appearances for his national team.
The defender has not been considered since making the move to Germany, but feels that he is worthy of a recall.
"I've always hoped to return for Spain. There are Spanish players here in Germany who are doing very well, playing and making a name for themselves," he told AS.
"I don't know why I've not been called since my debut [in May 2012]. Since I've been in Germany I haven't been called up to the national team . I don't understand why but I guess they would rather take a player from La Liga than the Bundesliga."
Dominguez started his youth career with Real Madrid.
