Half-Time Report: Borussia Dortmund already three up against Borussia Monchengladbach

Dortmund already three up in league opener

Thomas Tuchel's first league match in charge of Borussia Dortmund is going to plan as his side head into half time with a 3-0 lead over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Monchengladbach looked determined to attack the hosts in the opening stages, firing an early warning shot through Granit Xhaka in the fifth minute, his effort bending wide.

Tuchel's charges found themselves under pressure again moments later when Tony Jantschke got his head to a corner, nodding Xhaka's cross over the bar.

Dortmund's first chance came in the 13th minute when Henrikh Mkhitaryan swung in a corner towards Sokratis, whose header was too high to cause Yann Sommer any problems in the Monchengladbach goal.

Tuchel's side opened their account for the new Bundesliga season two minutes later through Marco Reus, who tucked a low shot into the bottom corner after being teed up by Shinji Kagawa.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 21st minute as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rose high to meet Marcel Schmelzer's cross, guiding the ball into the bottom right corner.

Dortmund were out of sight just after the half-hour mark when Mkhitaryan capped off a swift break by prodding home Aubameyang's pass from close range to give the visitors a mountain to climb in the second half.
