Bolton Wanderers forced to settle for a point against Barnsley

Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley see out a 1-1 draw following Craig Davies's second-half strike for the away side.

Bolton Wanderers have been forced to share a 1-1 draw with Barnsley, despite taking the lead through Kevin Davies in the first half.

The home side had their fair share of chances in the early stages of the first 45 minutes and Chris Eagles tried to take an early lead by taking a shot from deep inside the penalty area, but his effort glided to the right of the post.

Barnsley tried to respond instantly through Craig Davies, who launched a shot at goal but Jay Spearing, who is on loan at the Reebok from Liverpool, got a vital block in to prevent the ball hitting the back of the net.

The away side began to take control by the 20-minute mark following a headed effort by Marcus Tudgay, but his chance just drifted wide of the goal.

Bolton began to press and their dominance eventually paid off when a cross from Eagles found the feet of Davies, who fired his shot into the bottom left-hand corner of the goal to give the home side the lead.

Bolton tried to double their lead in the second half courtesy of a shot from Spearing, but the chance drifted past the right side of the post and minutes later the former Premier League side were punished for their missed chances.

Craig Davies pulled back the ball from outside the box for Barnsley and launched a powerful shot into the bottom-right corner of the goal to put his side back into the game.

While both sides tried to search for the winner, neither team could grab all three points by the final whistle.
