Sports Shield consortium complete Bolton Wanderers takeover

Dean Holdsworth's Sports Shield consortium have completed the takeover of Bolton Wanderers.

Talks have been ongoing for a number of weeks regarding a deal as the Championship strugglers faced up to the prospect of being liquidated over unpaid tax bills.

However, it is now expected that those debts will be cleared under the ownership model, which is a joint venture between Sports Shield and the Inner Circle Investment Group.

Former Bolton striker Holdsworth will take on the role of chairman, while outgoing owner Eddie Davies has been handed the position of club president.

An official statement on the matter is expected later this afternoon.
