Bolton Wanderers midfielder Sean Davis is expected to step up his recovery from an injury that has ruled him out of action for the past two years.
The 32-year-old has been pencilled in to feature in Bolton's reserve side on Tuesday afternoon.
Davis, who has represented the England under-21 side, has not played since August 2009 when he suffered a knee injury against Liverpool.
A succession of operations and setbacks have followed for Davis, who has also played for Fulham, Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth.
Full-back Sam Ricketts could also return from an Achilles injury in the second string's match against Newcastle United.
