Bolton Wanderers sold to Dean Holdsworth's Sport Shield Group

Bolton sold to Sport Shield

Bolton Wanderers have been sold to Sport Shield Group following a dismal financial period.

The Championship club were due in the High Court on Monday over a £3m unpaid tax bill.

Sport Shield Group, which is a consortium led by former footballer Dean Holdsworth, was recently given exclusivity to complete a takeover with the Trotters.

A deal, which will involve the new company investing £7.5m in the club until the end of the season, has resulted in a winding-up order being adjourned for 14 days.

Advisor to the board Trevor Birch told the club's official website: "Whilst this continues to be a challenging time for everyone associated with the club, we are confident that this adjournment will give us the necessary time to conclude a transfer of ownership of the club, subject to approval from the Football League."

On Friday, Bolton sold their Euxton training ground to Wigan Athletic for a reported £2.5m.
