Football Association asks Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston to explain abusive texts

The Football Association has asked Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston to explain why he called a supporter a "retard" in a text message.

Oyston admitted sending the texts after his phone number was published on social media and has since apologised.

In a statement today, the FA said: "Having only recently come into possession of all the relevant material, the FA has sought the observations of Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston in relation to text messages he is alleged to have sent to a third party."

Oyston has until Thursday to respond to the FA request.
