Former Blackburn Rovers striker Yakubu scored on his Chinese debut to help Guangzhou R&F to a 1-0 win over Guangzhou Evergrande.
The 29-year-old, who joined the club at the end of June, scored in the 86th minute with a typically cool finish to hand his new club all three points.
The win for Guangzhou sends the club into fifth spot in the league, while the Nigerian has opened his account for the Chinese Super League outfit.
Yakubu scored 18 goals in 33 games for Blackburn last season.
