Agent: 'Brazilian clubs want Van der Vaart'

The agent of Real Betis midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has revealed that 'two Brazilian clubs' want to sign his client.

The Dutchman joined Betis on a free transfer in the summer transfer window, but has largely struggled to make his mark on his return to La Liga football.

Talk of the 33-year-old departing at the end of the current season has gathered pace in recent weeks and his agent, Marcos Leite, has confirmed that there is interest from Brazil.

"We've talked to two clubs, one in Rio de Janeiro and another in the North-East," Leite told AS.

"Not anyone can hire a player like this. What we're discussing is his salary. We'll try to solve [Van der Vaart's Betis contract] so the player can go on a free, without having to pay the termination clause.

"Palmeiras made an inquiry but not a proposal. A person who wasn't authorised spoke on behalf of Santos, but there's nothing in that regard."

Van der Vaart has also represented Ajax, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur during a well-travelled career.
