Benfica boss Jorge Jesus: '1-0 would have been preferable'

Benfica manager Jorge Jesus challenges his players to raise their game for the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Juventus.

Benfica boss Jorge Jesus has praised his players following their 2-1 victory over Juventus in the Europa League, but said that he would have preferred a 1-0 win at home.

The Eagles manager described the result as an "important win" and challenged his team to raise their game for the return leg.

"It was important to win, although a 1-0 would have been better than 2-1," Record quotes him as saying.

"We knew that we were going to play against a strong team who usually score. We had to be perfect and we almost were. It was a great individual goal from [Carlos] Tevez.

"It was their first defeat in the Europa League and they showed their strength here. We always knew that nothing would be decided. It's all open but let's do better in Turin."

The first leg appeared to be heading for a draw after Tevez cancelled out Ezequiel Garay's opener with 17 minutes remaining, but Lima found the net late on to give the Portuguese side a slender advantage.
