Robert Lewandowski reveals he was ready to join Man United

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has revealed that he came close to joining Manchester United while at Borussia Dortmund.

The 32-year-old, who was recently voted the Best Men's Player at the 2020 FIFA awards, enjoyed three prolific campaigns with Dortmund before making the switch to Bayern in 2014.

Lewandowski was a man in demand after bursting onto the scene under Jurgen Klopp, and the Poland international has now lifted the lid on talks with Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012.

Speaking to France Football, Lewandowski said: "After my second year in Dortmund, I had a conversation with Sir Alex Ferguson. He wanted me to come to Manchester.

"I was very interested. I can even say I was ready. But Dortmund didn't want to let me go. It didn't upset me more than that because things were going well with Borussia."

Lewandowski has become one of the world's most prolific forwards during his time with Bayern, where he has found the back of the net 266 times in 307 appearances across all competitions, including 20 goals in the current campaign.
