Elber Giovane says that his former club Bayern Munich should not sign Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund and must retain faith in Mario Gomez.

Former Bayern Munich striker Elber Giovane believes that the German club do not need Robert Lewandowski.

The Bavarian giants have been linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker in the summer following the Poland international's impressive form in the Bundesliga since 2010.

"I would continue to back [Mario] Mandzukic and [Mario] Gomez," Elber told Abendzeitung. "But sometimes the football business is fast. Who is good today, might be deemed not useful the day after tomorrow and has to go.

"I believe Gomez will win back his place in the team. He has been in Bundesliga for a long time and knows how the wind blows. If he continues to score and keeps on pushing he will be back in the starting line-up soon."

Elber won the Bundesliga four times with Bayern and the Champions League once.
