Arjen Robben hints at retirement U-turn

Former Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has revealed that he has considered coming out of retirement.

The ex-Netherlands international called time on his playing career at the end of last season at the age of 35.

Robben won 22 major honours across a 19-year senior career, including a league and cup double in his final campaign at Bayern, and the Dutchman admits that he occasionally thinks about being back on the field.

"In the beginning I didn't miss football at all," he told the FC Bayern podcast. "But then there was a phase when it tickled again and I had thoughts such as: 'Hey, maybe I would like to play a little again'.

"From time to time I still have this feeling. With this virus, it is a very strange time for everyone and when football returns, then now! But maybe it always stays a bit in there. I'm just an athlete."

As well as turning out more than 300 times for Bayern, Robben also represented Groningen, PSV Eindhoven, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
