Arjen Robben: 'Bayern Munich must aim for Champions League final'

Robben aiming for Champions League final

Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben has claimed that the club should be aiming to reach the Champions League final this season.

The five-time champions get their campaign underway tonight (Wednesday) when they welcome Manchester City to the Allianz Arena.

With Bayern last making it through to the final when they won the competition in 2013, Robben believes that the squad has to be setting their sights on the final in Berlin on June 6.

"Bayern Munich should be aiming for the Champions League final again," he told Sport/Voetbalmagazine. "You always have to be careful and make sure you don't get arrogant, but you must have that ambition with the team Bayern have.

"You simply don't start your European campaign with the ambition to make it to the quarter-finals or perhaps a bit further."

Bayern were thrashed 5-0 on aggregate by eventual champions Real Madrid in the semi-finals of last season's competition.
