Harry Kane makes Champions League history as Bayern Munich star achieves unprecedented English feat

A perfect ten: Killer Kane makes Champions League history for England

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane wrote a new page of Champions League history with his opening goal against Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their last-16 tie.

Vincent Kompany's men were virtually home and hosed before making the trip to the BayArena, having eased past their Bundesliga rivals 3-0 on home soil in the first leg.

Kane was on target twice in that dominant victory over the Bundesliga champions, and the 31-year-old was up to his usual tricks in the final third against Xabi Alonso's side in the return fixture.

Following a goalless first half in Leverkusen, Kane made a smart run to meet a Joshua Kimmich free kick and got a lucky break of the ball, as Patrik Schick swiped at an attempted clearance close to his own goal.

Kane capitalised by expertly taking the ball in his stride, leaving Lukas Hradecky in his wake and tapping home with the goal at his mercy, thus scoring his 10th Champions League goal of the season.

The 31-year-old has therefore become the first English player to hit double figures in a single European Cup/Champions League campaign, as he continues to send records tumbling in a Bayern Munich shirt.

After making history for his nation on Tuesday, Kane will soon link up with his England teammates, as Thomas Tuchel names his squad on Friday for this month's World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Albania (March 21) and Latvia (March 24).
