Basel and Red Bull Salzburg finish goalless

Basel and Red Bull Salzburg have played out a goalless draw in the first leg of their Europa League tie this evening.

Yann Sommer made a good save to deny Stefan Ilsanker's glancing header early on before Matias Delgado smashed a shot way over the bar after a swift counter from the Swiss side.

Another quick counter from the home team saw Valentin Stocker fire straight at Peter Gulacsi in the Salzburg goal on the half-hour mark.

Jonathan Soriano fired in two decent attempts from range after the break, but neither side was able to break the deadlock as the game lurched to a scoreless conclusion.
