Barnsley throw away two-goal lead against Ipswich Town

Barnsley throw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Ipswich Town in today's Championship game at Oakwell.

Barnsley have thrown away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Ipswich Town in today's Championship game at Oakwell.

The Tykes took the lead in the 12th minute, when Chris O'Grady was allowed space in the box to turn and shoot past Dean Gerken.

Six minutes later, Ipswich were unlucky not to equalise, as a swirling free kick from Richard Cresswell crashed back off the post with goalkeeper Luke Steele well beaten.

The Tractor Boys kept pushing on, with a ball from Stephen Hunt flying across the face of goal midway through the first half, but no teammate was able to get on the end of it.

Nick Proschwitz nearly pounced on a failed Ipswich clearance near the end of the first half, but the away side were able to defuse the danger before he could get to it.

Cole Skuse threatened for Ipswich after the restart, the midfielder firing a left-footed shot that flew just wide, and just a few minutes later, the same player lashed the ball high above the Barnsley net following a goalmouth scramble.

Just after the hour mark, Hunt lashed a cross into the Tykes box, but Paul Anderson's volley flew just wide of the post.

Despite Ipswich's increased efforts, the home side doubled their lead when Tomasz Cywka's free kick midway through the second half was deflected into the far corner of the Tractor Boys net.

The home side's two-goal advantage wasn't to last, however. The Ipswich fightback began when Christophe Berra scored a goal from close range in the 81st minute, and just three minutes later, a free kick from David McGoldrick saw the away side score the second.
