Paris Saint-Germain reportedly grow increasingly optimistic about their chances of agreeing a new contract with 18-year-old midfielder Xavi Simons.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly growing confident about their chances of tying teenage midfielder Xavi Simons down to a new contract.

The 18-year-old sees his current contract at the Parc des Princes expire at the end of the season and continues to be linked with a move elsewhere over his struggles for game time.

Barcelona are thought to be keen to bring the former La Masia starlet back to Catalonia, while Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen are rumoured to have already tabled an offer for the Netherlands Under-19 international.

However, Foot Mercato - via Get French Football News - now claims that PSG are hopeful of agreeing fresh terms with Simons, with sporting director Leonardo desperate to avoid letting the teenager leave for nothing.

The report adds that Simons has a clear pathway into the first team at PSG and should earn some minutes in Wednesday's Ligue 1 clash with Angers, where Mauricio Pochettino's side will hope to wrap up the top-flight title.

Simons has already made nine appearances for PSG's first team but has been an unused substitute in six of his side's last seven Ligue 1 matches.
