Barcelona have reportedly prepared an offer to bring Lionel Messi back to the club which would see the attacker earn significantly less than during his first spell at Camp Nou.
The 35-year-old left the Catalonian club after 17 years of service to join Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021, winning the Ligue 1 title in France but failing to guide the Parisians to Champions League glory.
Messi's contract at Parc des Princes expires at the end of the season and no agreement has yet been reached over an extension, leading to speculation that Messi may return to La Liga.
According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona will offer Messi a salary of around £22m per year - four times less than the amount on his previous contract at Camp Nou as the club continues to battle with financial issues.
The report adds that Xavi's side would propose a two-year deal to the player, with Messi having the ability to terminate the agreement after the first year.
Inter Miami of MLS and Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League have also been credited with an interest in the World Cup winner, however a return to Barcelona could be on the cards this summer.
