Javier Mascherano pens new Barcelona deal

Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has signed a new contract with the club to end speculation over his future.

The 29-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Argentina, has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou in recent weeks, but has now agreed a deal to stay with the Catalan giants until 2018.

Mascherano joined Barcelona from Liverpool in 2010, going on to make over 100 appearances in midfield and defence.

Barca finished last season second in La Liga and are now under new management following Luis Enrique's appointment last month.
