Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier reveals that the club are "talking a lot" with Lionel Messi about a new contract.

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Christophe Galtier has stated that the club are "talking a lot" with Lionel Messi about a new contract.

Messi is set to enter the final few months of a two-year deal, which he signed after leaving Barcelona in the summer of 2021.

In his 65 appearances for PSG, Messi has scored 29 goals and provided 32 assists, helping the club win a league title and the French Super Cup.

The Argentina international has been linked with a return to the Catalan giants, while MLS side Inter Miami are interested in securing his services.

A recent report also claimed that Messi is set to be offered a £193m a year deal by Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

With Cristiano Ronaldo currently playing for Al-Nassr, a move to Al-Hilal would see Messi join his long-term rival in Saudi Arabia.

Despite attracting interest from across the globe, Messi is also open to the idea of remaining in the French capital.

Journalist Guillem Balague recently said that the World Cup winner would be prepared to stay with PSG if he was given assurances about the club's ability to compete at the top level.

PSG were knocked out of the last 16 of the Champions League by Bayern Munich earlier this month, and Messi seemingly wants guarantees that the Parisians have a plan to seriously challenge for Europe's top prize.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's home league meeting with Rennes, Galtier was questioned about Messi's future with the French champions.

"It's too early to know his future," Galtier said. "He, the board and the president are talking a lot. I've already said that his stay would be positive news for everyone.

"I know there has been a lot of criticism after Bayern Munich, but he has been decisive in many moments of the season."

Following PSG's Champions League exit, Galtier's own future has been called into question with the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Luis Enrique linked with the club's managerial position.

Galtier, who won the league title with Lille in the 2020-21 campaign, is closing in on his first Ligue 1 trophy as PSG boss.

The Parisians are currently 10 points clear of their nearest rivals Marseille ahead of the weekend's round of fixtures.
