Barcelona currently unable to register Ferran Torres

Barcelona boss Xavi has revealed that the club are currently unable to register new signing Ferran Torres.

The Spain international has joined the Catalan outfit in a £46.7m transfer from Manchester City, leaving the Citizens having scored 16 times and registered four assists in 43 outings in all competitions.

Barcelona's financial issues mean that they cannot yet register Torres, though, with the La Liga club needing to sell players and renegotiate Ousmane Dembele's contract in order to free up room in the wage budget.

"Ferran Torres is a spectacular signing, both as a player and a person. He's coming off an important injury, he has fantastic commitment, he's going to give us a lot, I've no doubt about it. He can play in different positions, I'm very happy with the effort made by the club to get him," Xavi told reporters.

"We'll see how the salary cap situation is, if it's possible right away. There has to be players leaving. If we get Dembele to resign his contract and lower his pay it will allow us to sign Torres and we hope that it can happen.

"The exits are being worked on. The market starts today and there is a month left. Many things have to be valued but for players to come, others have to leave, that is very clear."

The 21-year-old, who scored nine times and registered 12 assists in 97 appearances for Valencia during his time at Mestalla, is still on the sidelines recovering from a foot injury.
