Barcelona's Jordi Alba tests positive for coronavirus

Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba has become the latest Blaugrana player to test positive for coronavirus.

The Catalan giants recently confirmed that centre-back Clement Lenglet and right-back Dani Alves had entered isolation after contracting COVID-19.

Now, Xavi's defensive ranks have taken another hit ahead of the resumption of La Liga following the winter break, with Barca due to take on Real Mallorca on Sunday night.

A statement released on Barca's website on Tuesday morning read: "First-team player Jordi Alba has tested positive for COVID-19, ruling him out of Tuesday afternoon's training session.

"The player is in good health and self-isolating at home. The Club has reported the case to the relevant authorities. He joins Clement Lenglet and Dani Alves on the sidelines, who also tested positive for COVID-19."

Alba, now 32, has remained a regular for Barcelona in the 2021-22 campaign, registering five assists in 18 appearances across all competitions.
