Jordi Alba praises Carlos Puyol

Jordi Alba has lavished praise on Barcelona teammate Carlos Puyol, who is expected to make an announcement regarding his future this afternoon.

The long-serving centre-back has called a press conference for 3pm UK time, when it has been reported that he will announce his retirement from professional football.

Alba remained tight-lipped when questioned on Puyol's future, but took the time to praise his fellow Barca defender.

"When I came into the national team and when I met him at Barca, the way he treated me was always fantastic," he told reporters. "Puyol is a leader, everyone likes him and he's a fantastic professional. I've not spoken with him about this, but for me, it's always a privilege to work alongside him."

Alba is currently with the Spain squad ahead of Wednesday's friendly with Italy.
