Robert Lewandowski injury: Will Barcelona marksman miss El Clasico, Inter Milan clashes?

Lewandowski injury: Will Barca goal machine miss Real Madrid, Inter clashes?

Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski is reportedly facing a minimum of three weeks on the sidelines with the hamstring injury that he picked up during Saturday's La Liga clash with Celta Vigo.

Lewandowski has been in red-hot form for Barcelona during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring 40 goals and registering three assists in 48 appearances for the Catalan giants.

However, the 36-year-old limped off the field in the latter stages of Saturday's game against Celta, which Barcelona won 4-3 after coming from 3-1 behind.

The Catalan team provided official confirmation of his injury on Sunday, and according to AS, the forward could be missing for a minimum of three weeks.

"Tests carried out on Sunday have confirmed that first-team player Robert Lewandowski has a left semitendinosus injury. His return will be determined by his progress," read a statement from Barcelona.

A three-week absence would take Lewandowski until April 10, meaning that he could miss the next five games for Barcelona, including the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid next weekend, in addition to both legs of their Champions League semi-final with Inter Milan.

Lewandowski 'facing three weeks out' with hamstring issue

Barcelona will return to La Liga action on Tuesday night against Mallorca, before El Clasico on Saturday evening, as the two biggest clubs in Spain prepare to lock horns for the Copa del Rey trophy.

Hansi Flick's side will then host Inter Milan for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on April 30, before a league game against Real Valladolid on May 3.

The second leg of their Champions League semi-final with Inter Milan will then take place on May 6, and should a three-week absence be confirmed, Lewandowski would miss all of those matches.

The experienced forward could potentially return for the La Liga game against Real Madrid on May 11, which could be crucial when it comes to the destination of this season's La Liga trophy.

Who could replace Lewandowski in the Barcelona XI?

Ferran Torres has been in excellent form for Barcelona this season, scoring 17 times and registering four assists in 40 appearances in all competitions, and the Spaniard is likely to play at centre-forward in Lewandowski's absence.

Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are certainties in the wide areas, with Gavi, Dani Olmo and Fermin Lopez then battling to play as the number 10.

Lewandowski has had his contract extended for a further 12 months until the end of next season, and it is understood that he will remain as Barcelona's first-choice centre-forward during the 2025-26 campaign.
