Villarreal sign Sergio Asenjo on loan from Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo has joined Villarreal on a season-long loan deal.

The 24-year-old, who had previously spent a long period with Malaga, has struggled for first-team football in the past two seasons.

"Villarreal, subject to the signing of the contract, have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid for goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo, who will play on loan for the 2013/14 season at the Yellow Submarine," read a statement on the club's official website. "Also, Villarreal, have the option to buy the goalkeeper at the end of the loan period."

Asenjo is a former Spanish Under-21 international.
