How Atletico Madrid could line up against Real Madrid

How Atletico could line up against Real Madrid

Atletico Madrid will be looking to return to winning ways in La Liga when they host Real Madrid this weekend.

Atletico still hold second position in the table, but they are now just two points ahead of third-placed Real after losing their second league game of the season away to Real Betis last weekend.

Diego Simeone's team have had a free week to prepare for this match, though, and will be looking to beat their bitter rivals in the league for the first time since February 2016.

Atletico have incredibly not actually overcome Los Blancos in a home league fixture since February 2015, but they will be the fresher of the two teams at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at how Atletico could line up on Saturday.

Out: Diego Costa (foot), Stefan Savic (Achilles) Doubtful: Koke (muscular)

Atletico's inspirational captain Diego Godin missed the defeat at Betis last weekend with a muscular problem but should return to the XI for this match.

Meanwhile, Koke and Saul Niguez should also be fit having also missed the defeat at Betis through injury, although the former is still seen as a slight doubt.

Diego Costa is still unavailable, however, as he recovers from foot surgery, while Stefan Savic's absence with an Achilles problem means that Jose Gimenez will continue in central defence.

Thomas Partey and Rodri Hernandez will both continue in midfield for the home team, while Alvaro Morata is expected to start against his former club, having recently moved to Atletico on loan from Chelsea.

Antoine Griezmann will be looking to add to the 10 La Liga goals that he has managed this weekend.
