Rayo Vallecano hold Atletico Madrid to draw in Copa del Rey first leg

La Liga strugglers Rayo Vallecano held Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 draw in tonight's first leg of the last-16 Copa del Rey tie.

Atletico, who are top of the league, got off to a slow start and fell behind 10 minutes before half time when Nacho Martinez beat Miguel Angel Moya from outside the area.

The visitors came close to equalising before the break when Yannick Ferreira Carrasco failed to beat Juan Carlos from Oliver Torres's cross.

The leveller eventually came midway through the second half as Saul Niguez tucked home.

Luciano Vietto went close to a winning goal on the night for Atleti, but he failed to find the net which means that it will be all square at the start of play in next Thursday's second leg at the Vicente Calderon.
