Southampton are reportedly interested in signing Atalanta BC striker Andrea Petagna this summer.
Saints boss Mark Hughes is keen to beef up his attack ahead of the new season and has identified the Italian as a top target, reports Sky Sports News.
Petanga, who scored six goals in 39 games last season, is said to be available for around £10.7m.
According to the report, Southampton will face competition for his signature from Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Meanwhile, the Saints are also believed to be locked in a two-way battle with West Ham United for the services of Barcelona defender Marlon Santos.
