Team News: Jurgen Klopp makes three changes to Liverpool XI for Atalanta clash

Klopp makes three changes to Liverpool XI for Atalanta clash

Jurgen Klopp has made three changes to Liverpool's starting lineup for their Europa League quarter-final second leg with Atalanta BC in Bergamo.

Needing to somehow make up a 3-0 deficit from last week's harrowing first-leg loss, the Reds welcome Cody Gakpo, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai back to their first XI.

Alexander-Arnold is a straight swap for Conor Bradley - absent due to an ankle injury - at right-back, while Szoboszlai is introduced in the midfield trident for Wataru Endo.

With Liverpool missing the defensive presence of Endo, Alexis Mac Allister will presumably occupy the number 10 slot, as Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones start either side of the Argentine.

Meanwhile, Gakpo is given the nod in the number nine role over Darwin Nunez, as Diogo Jota - who scored a hat-trick against Atalanta in the 2020-21 Champions League - accepts a spot on the bench again.

Despite the manner of last week's astounding Anfield success, Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has still seen fit to make a pair of alterations to his starting XI, one in defence and one in attack.

Ex-Arsenal centre-back Sead Kolasinac comes in for first-leg goalscorer Mario Pasalic - allowing Marten de Roon to start in his more familiar midfield role - while Aleksey Miranchuk replaces Charles De Ketelaere.

Atalanta BC: Musso; Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac; Zappacosta, Ederson, De Roon, Ruggeri; Koopmeiners, Miranchuk; Scamacca Subs: Carnesecchi, Rossi, Toloi, Holm, Pasalic, Toure, Lookman, De Ketelaere, Bakker, Adopo, Hateboer, Bonfanti

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz Subs: Adrian, Kelleher, Endo, Gomez, Nunez, Elliott, Jota, Tsimikas, Gravenberch, Clark, Danns, Quansah
