Aston Villa to 'pursue move' for Chelsea attacker if Ollie Watkins departs

Aston Villa to pursue move for Chelsea attacker if Watkins departs

Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson this summer, although any approach could hinge on developments surrounding Ollie Watkins.

Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 and has since made 81 appearances for the Blues, scoring 30 goals.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich, but despite having the option to make the move permanent, the German giants ultimately decided against doing so.

Jackson remains under a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, although there is a growing possibility that Chelsea could sanction his departure as Xabi Alonso looks to streamline his squad.

How Aston Villa could sign Nicolas Jackson?

According to Sky Sports News, Aston Villa are expected to make a move for Jackson should they decide to cash in on Watkins.

The England international has been linked with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and is reportedly open to leaving Villa Park this summer.

Villa remain determined to keep hold of their star striker, but Unai Emery has admitted that the possibility of an exit cannot be completely ruled out.

Nicolas Jackson to replace Watkins at Aston Villa?

Chelsea reportedly value Jackson at around £65m, and a move to Villa could see the Senegal international reunite with Emery, who previously coached him at Villarreal.

Villa may need to make a swift decision, however, as they could find themselves drawn into a transfer battle for the 25-year-old, with Atletico Madrid also said to be monitoring his situation.

Chelsea and Villa have already done business with one another this summer, with Morgan Rogers moving to Stamford Bridge, while Alejandro Garnacho headed in the opposite direction.

Atletico are reportedly more interested in securing Jackson on loan, whereas Chelsea would prefer a permanent sale, potentially giving Villa an advantage should they eventually decide to sanction Watkins's departure and move for a replacement.
