Gary McAllister: 'Paul Lambert sacking was inevitable'

Former Aston Villa assistant boss Gary McAllister says that the sacking of Paul Lambert was not a surprise for him.

Former Aston Villa assistant manager Gary McAllister has admitted that he was not surprised to see Paul Lambert sacked by the club.

The Scot was dismissed by the Midlands outfit this evening following a run of 10 Premier League games without a win, which leaves them in the relegation zone.

McAllister, who was assistant at Villa Park between 2010 and 2011, says that his former Scotland teammate has has paid the price for a poor campaign.

"I wasn't surprised, I felt it was inevitable," McAllister told BT Sport.

"It's been a torrid season. It's always disappointing to see a manager lose his job, when it's somebody you know well.

"The goalscoring for has been pretty dismal so I wasn't surprised."

Villa have won five of their 29 league games, scoring just 12 goals.
