Ashley Westwood: 'I want to be as good at Aston Villa as David Platt'

Aston Villa's Ashley Westwood has revealed that he wants to be as successful as David Platt at the club.

The 22-year-old followed in Platt's footsteps when he signed for Villa from Crewe.

Westwood told The Express: "I'll be happy if I can get near the level David reached.

"We had a picture of his goal at the Crewe training ground. That's the kind of player we were told to look up to and emulate. He has always been a class act."

Westwood added that Swansea also showed interest in signing him.

The teams meet at Villa Park this afternoon.
