Tim Sherwood urges Aston Villa fans to stay off the pitch against West Brom

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood urges fans to stay away from the pitch against West Brom this weekend following last season's fracas.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has called on supporters to behave in this weekend's clash against West Bromwich Albion at Villa Park.

In this fixture in the sixth round of the FA Cup last season, Villa fans stormed the pitch and many got in scuffles with rival supporters following the side's 2-0 victory.

The club were eventually fined £200,000 by the Football Association, and while Sherwood is keen for the fans to get behind the team, he does not want a repeat of those scenes.

"I just hope that they're tempted to," Sherwood told reporters in today's press conference. "If they are then we've done something right, but please stay to the edge on the pitch - do all your cheering from there. You do it well enough. It can be done from their seats or standing up. Make sure you stay off the pitch."

Villa have not won a Premier League game since their 1-0 triumph over Bournemouth on the opening day of the season on August 8.
