Remi Garde still confident of Aston Villa survival

Remi Garde still confident of Villa survival

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has insisted that his side can still pick up the points required to avoid the drop, despite suffering a humiliating defeat to Liverpool.

The Reds scored six unanswered goals at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon to inflict on Villa their heaviest home defeat of the Premier League era.

Eight points remains the gap between bottom-placed Villa and safety, but Garde is adamant that his side will not face a tougher test between now and the end of the season.

"We underperformed so badly that I feel very sorry for the Aston Villa fans, because they are always behind us if we are fighting but didn't fight on many occasions," he told Sky Sports News.

"It is only one game and then of course as I said earlier, Liverpool is a very good team with so many talented players.

"Hopefully we won't play such a good team every week until the end [of the season]. But I still believe we can win games and hopefully it will be enough to be safe."

Villa, who had lost just one of their last five league games prior to today, are back in action in two weeks' time with a trip to face Stoke City.
