Jack Grealish turns down place in Republic of Ireland squad

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill reveals that Jack Grealish has turned down a senior call-up.

Aston Villa youngster Jack Grealish has rejected a call-up to the senior Republic of Ireland squad.

The 19-year-old, who has been in positive form since Tim Sherwood took charge at Villa Park, has already represented Ireland at Under-21 level.

However, the Birmingham-born playmaker is also eligible to play for England, which may be behind his decision to turn down Martin O'Neill's invitation to feature in a friendly against the Three Lions and a Euro 2016 qualifier with Scotland next month.

"I spoke to both Jack and his father, and I think Jack just didn't want to make his mind up at this stage. He wants to make his decision at some time in the future," O'Neill told reporters.

However, O'Neill has been able to give first senior call-ups to Aberdeen striker Adam Rooney and Brentford midfielder Alan Judge.
