Paul Lambert: 'Carles Gil has hit the ground running'

Aston Villa coach Paul Lambert praises the impact of new signing Carles Gil, saying that the midfielder has "hit the ground running" since his arrival.

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has hailed the impact of new signing Carles Gil following his contribution to the team's 2-1 FA Cup win over Bournemouth.

Gil was on the scoresheet at Villa Park alongside Andreas Weimann to help push the Premier League club into the fifth round of the showpiece.

"We needed to try to get through. All credit to the team. I thought we deserved the win," Lambert told BBC Sport.

"Gil is lighting the place up and it was a world-class goal. Being a foreign player you can take time to adapt or hit the ground running and he has done the latter.

"He does the same in training. In training you can't get the ball from him as he has a low centre of gravity. I'm delighted to get through. It's a big win."

Villa will find out their opponents for the next round when the draw is made on Monday.
