Aston Villa handed AZ Alkmaar test in Europa Conference League

Aston Villa will square off against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa Conference League group stages.

The Premier League outfit made light work of Hibernian in the playoff round, running out 8-0 victors on aggregate against the Scottish side.

As a reward, Unai Emery's side have been drawn in a group alongside AZ, who reached the semi-finals in this competition last season before losing to West Ham United.

Villa will also make trips to Poland and Bosnia with Legia Warsaw and Zrinjski Mostar included in Group E.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen have been placed in a group alongside Eintracht Frankfurt, the winners of the 2022 Europa League.

Barry Robson's side, who dropped into this tournament on the back of losing to Hacken in the Europa League playoffs, will also meet PAOK and HJK Helsinki.
